Grade: 11, 12 — Credits: 3

Students will learn patient care skills in the classroom, lab and at clinical sites within the community, as well as basic nursing, communication skills and applied medical terminology. American Heart Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support CPR certification is a requirement and is a part of the coursework. Completion of direct patient care hours and classroom instruction may provide eligibility to sit for the Missouri Certified Nurse Assistant exam, enabling students to work in healthcare while pursuing postsecondary education and enhancing opportunities for admission to advanced healthcare career programs. College dual credit and articulated college credit may be available. Please see the instructor for details.

Prerequisites: Family Safety Registry Check, drug screen, tuberculosis test, influenza vaccine; discipline review for violence, insubordination, drugs and stealing; preference is given to students with a record of strong attendance patterns. Must successfully pass the first semester to continue into the second semester
