Professions in Healthcare 2 is the second year of a two-year program that introduces and prepares the student to better understand and enter the world of health care. This course is designed to provide students with a clinical experience that satisfies the clinical requirement for certification as a nurse assistant (CNA) by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. While reinforcing clinical skills, a focus is placed on therapeutic communication, teamwork, and safety in the healthcare setting. Disease pathophysiology, health maintenance practices, and medical terminology are emphasized, and students will further their understanding of nutrition practices and basic patient assessment. Students are encouraged to participate in the career and technical student organization, HOSA: Future Healthcare Professionals, to enhance leadership development and understanding of today’s healthcare marketplace. College dual credit and articulated college credit may be available. Prerequisites: Family Safety Registry Check, drug screen, tuberculosis test, influenza vaccine; discipline review for violence, insubordination, drugs and stealing; preference is given to students with a record of strong attendance patterns. Must successfully pass the first semester to continue into the second semester.
