Practical Nursing

The vision of Columbia Public Schools - Program of Practical Nursing is to provide accessible, quality education in a caring environment by keeping the learner's needs at the center of decision making and by working in partnership with training facilities to prepare students to provide safe and effective nursing care for patients in all settings. It is our goal to inspire students/graduates to value life-long learning and to develop/utilize critical thinking skills essential to providing quality nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse.

The program course of study includes courses in medical, surgical, geriatric, obstetric, and pediatric nursing; pharmacology and medication administration; clinical nursing procedures, communications, legal aspects of nursing, and professional development. Under the supervision and guidance of an experienced clinical instructor, students gain experience in acute, ambulatory, and long-term care of patients of all ages.
